Human Chiropractic
The treatment process
The first session lasts approximately an hour and a half. During the session a full medical history will be taken, including details about any previous conditions, as well as your current symptoms.
A physical examination will then be conducted to locate the problem. This will include conducting orthopaedic and neurological tests.
Provided that your chiropractor believes that your symptoms can be helped using chiropractic, then a treatment will then be done. In certain circumstances your chiropractor may have to refer you to your GP for further tests or investigations.
At all times the chiropractor will explain to you the process of the examination and the treatment.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies and depends on many factors. In general, most people find that their symptoms are resolved after between two to six treatments. More chronic problems take longer to resolve and, due to the nature of their symptoms and condition, some people may need ongoing maintenance treatments in order to stay as pain free as possible. The number of treatments needed will depend on:
• Age
• Extent of injury
• Duration of injury
• General fitness
• Stress (muscular tension and stress on your nervous system)
• Posture
How will I feel after treatment?
This varies from person to person. During the course of your treatment you will feel physical changes occur as your body adapts to the realignment. These may include feeling tired, stiff and slightly sore. These will be most evident after your first session. These symptoms are nothing to worry about and will usually resolve after 24 to 48 hours. You will be given advice on aftercare and any necessary lifestyle changes that you need to make in order to help you get the most benefit from your treatment. You may also be given exercises and stretches in order to help you maintain your mobility.
